A basic premise of community forestry is to help support the local community. In Bella Coola this will primarily be done through economic development, employment and access to timber for local processing. This also means that supplies and services are purchased locally whenever possible to support local merchants and service providers. The extensive network of forestry roads also provides access to the back country and that lets locals and visitors enjoy the outdoors.
