Timber Products
Logs of a variety of species, sizes and quality are the products that the Community Forest sells. The majority of the timber is made up of coastal conifers like western hemlock and Douglas-fir with minor components of red cedar, balsam fir and Sitka spruce. Within these species there are a wide variety of log sizes and quality and to maximize value, logs are processed into 40 to 70 different sorts for sale. Size ranges from large diameter coastal timber to small minimum utilization size poles. Wood quality ranges from top grade, fine grained clear old growth to pulp and all the different types of saw logs of varying quality in between. With an inventory of old forests, there is a high component of rotten and unusable timber that is salvaged for firewood where possible.
